Support Older Adults in our Mountain Community
MRC is Committed to Combating Loneliness and Despair
This year, our annual gala, Colorful Colorado, celebrates the strength and spirit of our mountain communities. In particular, we will focus on the resilience and vitality of the older adults that regularly visit Mountain Resource Center for help. More than half of the clients that Mountain Resource Center serves are over the age of 50. We make it a priority to provide older adults in our community with the services they need to healthily reside in their rural homes. 89% of the older adults who come to us qualify as low-income. MRC supports our older adult clients in a variety of impactful ways.
*MRC grants assistance to navigate emergency financial situations, such as help with paying rent, mortgage, or utility bills.
*MRC provides food for them and their families. Our food share markets provide healthy, fresh, and local food weekly, with the added convenience that our mobile food share creates for those who may have mobility or transportation challenges.
*Due to necessity, some of our older adults find themselves needing to head back to work and can come to MRC for help with applying to jobs or building a resume. Our supported, paid, 24-week job training program can teach the skills they may lack to gain the employment they seek.
*MRC understands the isolation that can come with age, and intentionally creates different opportunities for socialization, support, and community. Our clients can take part in onsite 1:1 or group mental health, as well as other classes on wellness, financial literacy, and our popular Culinary Adventures cooking class. These offer not only the chance to learn something new, but to make genuine connections with others in the community.
In the later years of life, people deserve to live with honor and dignity and to have the community and connections that keep them active, engaged and flourishing.
With your support today you are partnering with MRC to increase the agency's long-term capacity to meet the rising needs of a vulnerable population.
